The director has recognized that he has had to know how to adapt to the new changes in the studio.
Despite the fact that it has been announced for years, and that the first film was released in 2018, the sequel to Aquaman, entitled The Lost Kingdom, seems to be having a hard time reaching theaters, but of course James Wan’s film has had to go through many bumps, the first of them the pandemic and the second, the change of director of DC Studios.
And although by the time James Gunn arrived, the Jason Momoa-starring film was already well under way, The director has recognized that he has had to make changes as he finished it for Aquaman 2 to fit into the new DC Extended Universe. This was told by Wan himself in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I had to be making changes throughout the filming. The DCEU has had many different versions, and one of the main challenges of the film is that it should follow the new course set by the studio. Fortunately, Aquaman’s universe is far from the rest of the world. We move through underwater kingdoms that do not have to be connected to the outside world.”
“A lot of times things happen that don’t have to be related to what’s happening on the surface to other characters. So I have been able to tell my story without being greatly affected by the changesbut at the same time, I have had to be very aware of what is to come in the DC universe,” acknowledged the director.
Aquaman 2 is quite different from the first
Asked about when the film will be completely finished, Wan has acknowledged that tYou still have a few small adjustments to make on the treadmillbut that he is very excited for people to see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, especially since it is so different from the first one and deals with very important issues today.
“I think people are going to be very excited when they see it because it’s quite different from the first one, especially in tone. It’s a bit more serious because we deal with issues like climate change. This film has a message, as well as being an action and fantasy film,” explained the director. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in December 2023.
