Motorola has presented its new generation of folding mobile phones this Thursday and I have been able to hold the new Razr 40 Ultra in my hands, its most advanced model, which has surprised me very positively for several reasons. I’ll tell you below.
Motorola was one of the first brands to reach the foldable mobile market with its Razr family, and it was also the one that inaugurated the clamshell form factor, the most compact and successful today.
This effort does not disappear and now the American brand, once famous for its traditional mobiles with covers, has presented its fourth generation of folding, Razr 40which wants to conquer the market based on improved design and a very competitive price within its segment.
Motorola’s new family of foldables is made up of 2 models: the standard Razr 40 is the most basic model; while the Razr 40 Ultra is the most advanced and concentrates most of the innovations developed by Motorola.
I have had the opportunity to hold the new Motorola Razr 40 Ultra in my hands for a few minutes as part of its international presentation held in Madrid and then I will tell you what I liked the most about the new foldable that aims to revolutionize the sector.
It is the most advanced Motorola folding in terms of design, by far
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is a huge leap forward within Motorola’s foldables in terms of design, and that’s something that’s quickly noticeable as soon as you see it.
Its hinge has clearly improved compared to the previous generation and now it feels more solid in the hand, and at the same time feels lighter and finer when closed. And it is also noticeable in how well integrated the camera is, that nothing stands out in this model, unlike what happens in almost all of the high-end models.
Overall I would say that the feeling that you have a prototype in your hands has disappeared, and that is something that Motorola needed.
In addition, Motorola has been successful in the choice of colors, of which I especially liked the red hue that I have been able to try more.
Its exterior screen promises to be more functional than ever and, in the absence of thoroughly testing it, it succeeds.
CH
Despite being more compact and elegant, clamshells have a big problem: the outer screen is often small and has limited functionality.
Motorola has tried to challenge that prejudice with the Razr 40 Ultra and from what I have been able to see in a first contact, I think that its 3.6-inch exterior screen with the perforated dual camera is the most functional that can be found today. today in a folding of its kind.
Among the compatible apps are many of the most used such as Google Maps (ideal for seeing basic directions without opening it), Netflix, Disney, HBO, Pokémon Unite, TikTok and Spotify. The use case that convinces me the most is that of the latter, which not only lets you change the song but is also optimized to be able to navigate between the recommendations.
Although it will be necessary to test this aspect with much more calm in the review, it seems that Motorola has hit the nail on the head and that it will manage to avoid, this time for real, that you have to open the mobile for almost everything as happens with folding type current shell.
It is not far behind in terms of performance thanks to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
CH
One of the most striking aspects of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra cannot be seen with the naked eye: I am referring to its processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Motorola has not chosen the most powerful chip of the moment in Android, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but instead it has chosen the highest-end model of the second half of last year, with a performance that has been well demonstrated.
It will be necessary to check in the review how this device performs with demanding tasks, but Motorola has made sure that on paper it aligns with the high-end and that it does not disappoint those who want a powerful mobile.
Despite the advances compared to last year, the price drops by 300 euros
CH
Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is an extremely rare case study in the current mobile market, in a context in which high-end mobiles are becoming more expensive and it is no longer strange that they exceed 1,000 euros and even more.
The company’s most advanced folding costs 300 euros less than its predecessor, the Razr (2022), despite the fact that it was announced just 8 months ago since the current model is more advanced in specifications in all aspects.
This effort in terms of price is sure to make more users consider Motorola if they are thinking of buying a foldable, so it has the potential to change the status quo of the foldable market so far and the iron dominance of Samsung.
