Here we are: the thaw begins in the mountains and we’ll entice you with a contest in which the goal is to reach passes and mountains whose initials make up the “keyword” chosen to celebrate the birthday of the German manufacturer: “BMW ONE HUNDRED YEARS”. Pick The Peaks is in all respects a treasure hunt, in which the winner will be the one who has obtained the highest sum of the shares of steps and/or mountains whose initials make up the aforementioned keyword.
WHEN
The contest will start on June 5th and will end on September 15th. Participants will be free to use these 100 days as they wish: they can dilute the hunt for the peaks for all the months in which the challenge takes place, or concentrate it in a few weekends or even a single week.
DOVE
The passes and mountains considered valid for the contest are only those that fall within the European borders (the 26 EU countries) and that can be reached on paved roads open to traffic. (Off-road is not allowed because we wouldn’t know how to always certify, and with absolute certainty, the effective road conditions).
THE QUOTE
To determine the altitude of the pass or mountain, you can only use the value expressed by the road signs, on which the word “Pass” or “Mount” can also be expressed by synonyms. For example Col, Colle, Forcella, Valico, Giogo, Sella, Bocca, Alpe, Picco, Vetta, Cima, etc. If the place name consists of several words, the first letter of the last word applies. For example, to compose the keyword “DOG” a combination of this type is fine: Passo della Cisa 1.041 m, Passo dell’Aprica 1.181 m, Col di Nava 941 m, Col de l’Epine 1.012 m. In this case the sum total of the altitudes equals 4,175 m, or 4,175 points acquired by the participant.
THE PHOTOS-PROOF
The photos that testify to the passage through the passes and/or mountains that you have conquered must be sent, absolutely in a single email, and by the deadline of 11.59 pm on 15 September 2023, to [email protected]; to be admitted, photos must be taken in a precise manner: bike in evidence, rider (and any passenger) strictly without a helmet and without sunglasses, always holding a copy of Motociclismo from June or July or August or September 2023. Finally, the road sign certifying the name of the pass or mountain and their altitude must be legible, perhaps at the cost of removing some stickers. We remind you that a locality can have several signs that express slightly different altitudes: our contest only admits the altitude visible in the photo. In the unlikely event that there is an ex aequo result, whoever signs up first wins. Finally, remember that the sum of the heights conquered is the proof, which is why the winner could be whoever has found only 8, but very high, instead of 12, but much lower. For the avoidance of doubt, to compose the keyword “BMW ONE HUNDRED YEARS”, you need to find three different passes or mountains starting with “N”.
THE MIDDLE
You can only participate on the saddle of BMW motorcycles of any year, model, type, engine capacity. BMWs rented or not owned by the participant also apply. It is not mandatory that the BMW in the photo is always the same.
BONUS
To increase the score, there is a bonus of 500 points for those who send a picture of themselves with a BMW motorcycle and Motociclismo magazine in hand in front of at least two different BMW dealers.
