By the end of the month, the examination of the bill for road safety will begin in Parliament. The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, announced, during a question time in the Chamber, the arrival of the measures in June. The goal is to give more rules, more education and more safety on Italian roads.

Among the novelties is the alcohol locka device which, in the event of a conviction for driving while intoxicated, I will be required to install, and will prevent the engine from starting if the BAC exceeds zero. The highest priority in the bill is the contrast to driving after taking alcohol and drugs. Another security measure is the so-called “life imprisonment of the driving licence” which will provide for the withdrawal of the driving license for life.
Also tight on light mobility. In the provisions for bicycles and scooters comes the obligation of a helmet, insurance, license plate and arrows. There will also be hefty fines for stopping wild and driving the wrong way.
A delegation for an organic reform of the Highway Code is also foreseen and a draft ministerial decree on speed cameras, which would already be ready pending the approval of the provision on road safety. The latter will be useful for defining the conditions for the installation and use of uniform control devices in all Municipalities with certain rules, fair and effective sanctions and right to defense for citizens.
