A story of ferocious violence comes from France. The facts date back to 2019, but only tonight did the Oise Juvenile Court sentence the now-year-old killer to 18 years in prison.
Shaïna Hansye died, burned alive, at the age of 15, after being stabbed ten times. She was pregnant by her, by the boy who killed her and who has now been sentenced to 18 years in prison. At the time of the events, which took place in France, in the Oise, the young man was 17 years old.
The sentence is lower than that requested by the prosecution lawyer, who had asked for the revocation of the extenuating circumstance due to the minor age of the accused, rejected by the court, and a thirty-year sentence. Throughout the closed-door trial, which opened on Monday, the young man, a high school student with no criminal record at the time, continued to proclaim his innocence.
According to the civil parties, the psychiatric expert highlighted the young man’s lack of empathy and narcissism, a portrait contested by the defence.
Shaïna, who died at the age of 15, had been the victim of sexual violence two years earlier in her city, the images of which had been broadcast online, exposing her, according to Me Negar Haeri, her family’s lawyer, to being treated “as a thing” . Four other youths were convicted on June 1 on appeal of these offenses with suspended sentences ranging from six months to two years’ imprisonment.
According to the investigation, Shaïna, described by her mother as “nice and smiling”, was at the beginning of a pregnancy, which she attributed to the defendant. The latter may have been moved, according to the civil parties, by fear of her family’s reaction to the news of her pregnancy. “He was ready to destroy everything to save his image of her,” the attorney general ruled on Friday.
