I’ve been replaying Destiny 1 for a couple of days to refresh the campaign, see my beloved Cayde-6 again and play the story part of all the DLCs. I discovered the franchise with Destiny 2, so imagine if I’m late. The thing is, I’ve been replaying for around 5 hours and the warnings weren’t exaggerating: playing Destiny 1 in 2023 and beyond on PS5 is hard. It’s not a calamity, but it hurts.
I remember that Destiny 1 launched in 2014, almost a decade ago. And immediately the million dollar question came to me: what other video games do I know that are 10 years old or more and that still feel great? So here we are: these are 5 games that are over a decade old and that can leave us speechless in front of the screen.
bioshock trilogy
Not one, not two, but three. I’m glad Bioshock Infinite was released in 2013, because that allows me to (just barely) get this trilogy on the list. Bioshock 1 y 2 they released in 2008 and 2010 respectively, so we’re more likely to see the seams on these than the third installment.
The bioshock trilogy It has it all: heart-stopping settings, very interesting stories, and hilarious gameplay. Obviously they don’t have the fluidity of a Warzone 2, Apex Legends or Destiny 2, but it’s great as soon as you get used to it and let yourself go. In addition, you have them available from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, including Nintendo Switch and PC. There is a collection with all three.
Metro Redux
Second proposal and I’m already cheating: Metro Redux was released in 2014. However, the games included in this collection were released in 2010 and 2013, namely: Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light respectively. We are between two of the best narrative experiences that FPS or First person shoters can offer.
History places us in the famous Moscow metro After a nuclear world war that has left Russia completely devastated, post-apocalyptic and with horrible mutations. Humanity is forced to live in the subway, although it does not lose its old habits: the political conflicts and the violence they are the order of the day. Its graphic and artistic sections are great, and the gunplay has realistic touches. It is available on PC and consoles, including Nintendo Switch.
Dishonored
Are you ready to feel really old? Dishonored was released in 2012 and since then it has been present in all the videos that collect epic moments or great plays in video games. The fans surely agree with me to include it in this list. For those of you who do not know him, I will illustrate you with a video of the user GrayMischief.
The story places us in the industrial city of Dunwall, where humanity has managed to unite technology and certain supernatural powers. We are Corvo Attano, the empress’s former bodyguard, who is accused of the murder of your protégé and is forced to become an ultra-lethal assassin. Dishonored It has it all and is a unique experience. It remains sublime more than 10 years later.
Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the Tentacle
I found that I was getting too carried away with shooting and violence to make this list, so I have turned to my colleagues at VidaExtra to provide some variety. Frankie and Sergio Cejas (Beld) have recommended Day of the Tentacle to me. It is a hilarious graphic adventure released in 1993 (it came to be published on a floppy disk, wow!) and was remastered in 2016.
Day of the Tentacle is a sequel to the well-known Maniac Mansion. The story has absolutely everything: tentacles, radioactive waste, time machines and many more extravagances that will probably make your jaw drop with laughter again. There is no better proposal if you are looking for a pleasant experience.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Can you believe I almost forgot Skyrim? The original Bethesda version released in 2011 and gifted us with an adventure that literally changed the lives of all of us who played it. It is very difficult to express how overwhelming it can be in the world of Skyrim. It is tremendously large, any of its landscapes could be a wallpaper and its stories are incredible.
We have had Skyrim even in the fridge (literally) and even in 2021 the Anniversary Edition for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, which includes mods for consoles. No matter how many years pass, Skyrim will continue to leave us speechless and amaze us with its landscapes, fights against dragons, secrets… There are no words. If you have not played it and you like RPGs, then you are facing an infinite well of hours.
Shadow of the Colossus (2005), Red Dead Redemption 1 (2010) y Gears of War I, II y III (2007, 2008 and 2011) are also video games that still have the power to drop our jaws and make our hair stand on end. But there’s more, so now it’s up to you: which video games that are more than 10 years old still manage to leave you stunned in front of the screen?, video games that you can’t help but think “10 years and I would play it until the last day of my life”? I read you in comments.
