Just a few weeks until the release of Final Fantasy XVI, but the gameplay videos keep coming. The latest video, courtesy of IGN, sees Clive grappling with Liquid Flame, a powerful boss who can change shape. Clive is together with Shiva, who uses his ice to block the surrounding lava, but it’s up to him (and Torgal) to take down the boss.
Liquid Flame spends a good chunk of its time hitting non-stop, which means imaginative dodging is required. Eventually he will transform, first into a flying demon that spews fire and then into a beast that pounces on Clive. When he’s close to death, he can split into multiple flying demons and beasts to create even more chaos.
The gameplay allows us to take a look at Clive’s “rage” form, which allows you to deal additional damage. We hope to be able to try it for ourselves when the demo is available about two weeks before launch. Square Enix did not provide a release date, but an announcement has been spotted on PlayStation Network, so it may be soon.
Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22 for PS5, although a PC version is expected after launch.
