KYIV – Military Russia has destroyed nine tanks Ukraine, including four German-made Leopard-2s in the fierce fighting of the last 24 hours in the Zaporizhzhia Territory.
Russia’s Defense Ministry on Saturday (10/6/2023) said Moscow forces had repelled attempts by Kyev forces to advance.
“Over the last 24 hours, Ukraine has continued in vain attempts to carry out offensive operations in Russia’s Zaporizhzhia Region, in the south of the Donetsk People’s Republic and near the city of Artyomovsk,” said the ministry’s spokesman, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, as reported by Russia Today.
Zaporizhzhia was previously a territory of Ukraine, but broke away and joined Russia in a referendum. Ukraine and its Western allies do not recognize the referendum as an illegal annexation.
Konashenkov said that in the Zaporizhzhia Region, Russian ground troops, artillery and aviation repelled two attacks by large Ukrainian units driven by tanks in the areas of the villages of Yablonevo and Novopokrovka.
“Two of the Kyiv armored convoys were attacked near the settlements of Novodanilovka and Malaya Tokmachka,” he said. “There were also three smaller Ukrainian raids in the area, which were also unsuccessful.”
“In addition to the nine tanks, the Kyiv forces also deployed eleven armored personnel carriers, which included five US-supplied Bradley fighting vehicles, 14 armored cars and the French-made Caesar self-propelled howitzer,” Konashenkov said.
He added that the loss of the Ukrainian military in terms of manpower during the new battles in the Zaporizhzhia Region has reached up to 300 soldiers.
Neither the government nor the Ukrainian military have commented. They adopted a policy of silence, especially in counterattacking attempts using Western weapons.
