Peter Sohn, the director of Elementary and Arlo’s Journey, explains his connection to the new Pixar feature film, in which he has reflected part of his life experience.
Next July, Pixar will release its new movie animation: Elemental, a story set in a universe in which the people who inhabit it are made up of the four elements: fire, water, earth and air.
Its protagonists with candle and niletwo young men made of fire and water who fall in love causing a conflict to arise between their respective families. Peter Sohn, the director of Elemental, is a American son of Korean immigrants who wanted to transfer part of his life experience to the characters in the new feature film by Pixar.

In a recent interview with Variety, Peter Sohn has revealed that he felt the need to share with the world that part of the cultural heritage that he carried within himself. “I have children who come from different cultures and mixed. I am Korean and my wife is half Italian, half German and half English.
“The feeling it produces can sometimes be like a burden,” he added. Director of Elementalwondering if he was doing the wrong thing by not teaching his descendants “the Korean language and culture.”

For peter sonthis is his second feature film after directing Arlo’s Journey in 2015. With Elemental tried to make a movie with which he could “connect in a very personal way”, while with Arlo’s Journey there was no such intention to take her to his land.
“Starting this film, I felt lucky and privileged to make another film and I tried to put everything I had into it”. Elemental opens in theaters next July 14.
