It’s funny how, although it doesn’t have any active series right now, the Dragon Ball franchise is still very much alive thanks to the manga. We are not only talking about an IP that is recognized for having provided some of the best anime in history, and that is part of popular culture today, which means that, although it is not particularly current, it continues having a legion of fans pending any type of content you can provide, being in this case the Dragon Ball Super manga. If we had to say exactly why it’s such a popular franchise, we’d probably say it’s because of its characters, and especially its villains.
If we look, for example, at Piccolo, we are talking about an extremely particular case, and that is that he was the final villain of the original series, to later become an ally, in addition to one of the favorite characters of the franchise, but later lose relevance in favor of other characters like Vegeta. Many people did not end up happy with this, but luckily we can say that this character had his redemption in the movie Dragon Ball: Super Super Hero, which is now being adapted by the Dragon Ball Super manga.
Piccolo is close to gaining much more popularity in the manga.
