Initially, Kohei Horikoshi’s plans for My Hero Academia were totally different to what we have currently seen during the development of the series, since the mangaka had started this work as a one-shot called “My Hero” in which the story was somewhat different as were many of the characters and designs of these, including Deku’s, who was different from the beloved current hero.
And it is that the plans of Kohei Horikoshi for its history and characters were very different from what is currently seen, and this can be evidenced in the original design of Deku, the protagonist of My Hero Academia, since his appearance was far from the jovial and friendly look that the beloved Izuku has.
Through the book My Hero Academia Official Character Book Ultra Archive, revealed the sketches and some curiosities about the creation and design of the characters of My Hero Academia in its beginningsrevealing the original design of Deku, who clearly had a gloomy and somewhat terrifying look.
In these images you can see the original design of Deku, which was named Mikumo Akatani, who had a look totally different from Izuku’s, because her hair was longer and black to such an extent that it covered one of her eyes and her ears, her gaze was colder and deeper, which easily it gave a feeling of darkness about this character. In addition, the superhero costume he was wearing was more aggressive and somewhat scarypacked with many gadgets to use in battle.
Besides, the initial color of the aggressive superhero suit was orange instead of greenand the heroic name that this original Horikoshi sketch bore was: “Fiend Kid or Demon Boy”which is clearly very threatening, complementing perfectly with this gloomy and dark look that the mangaka had in mind.
