Review The Enchanted:
Laia Costa once again shows that she is a great actress, in a very difficult role, in which feelings prevail. She goes through all possible states; anxiety, sadness, melancholy, desire, joy…, in the middle of a story with little action that could cover some lack of interpretation. And she does it masterfully, infecting viewers who manage to empathize with her character.
The story begins in a big city like Barcelona, crowded with people, in which Irene has to face her new life, after making the decision to separate from her husband, and continues in a quiet mountain town, the complete opposite of the big city, where he meets friends from his childhood. There is a great contrast between the city, stressful, and the countryside, with idyllic landscapes.
In the quiet town there are few characters but they are full of charisma and stories to tell, especially a childhood friend played by the newcomer Ainara Elejalde, who is a very attractive character full of mysteries. Despite being very interesting, her character does not develop too much, and she remains in the background. The rest of the actors like Daniel Pérez, Aina Clotet, and Pep Cruz are also at a high level.
Instead of twisted plots and unexpected action, we have a simple story of a woman who has just crossed the barrier of youth, and is facing the pain of a separation. In a society that has a very normalized separation with children in between and in which it is thought that there will be no consequence, the pain and doubts that he goes through are shown, and the sudden change, in which he loses momentum control in your life.
Conclusion
This is a very interesting film that transmits feelings and offers topics to think about or debate. Although no big things happen and it can sometimes seem very slow, it is intense in emotions. It’s a great movie.
