It rained last night on Campagnano di Roma and therefore the Vallleunga track could change again in view of the qualifying rounds of the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia 2023 scheduled for the morning, with bright sunshine at the moment.
Yesterday was a day of tests and free practice, dominated by the reigning champion Quaresmini, who perhaps, together with the Dinamic-boys (Festante 2nd in the test, Amati at the top in two sectors out of four in free practice) today will be the first special observed, but the challenge for the two pole positions really has many variables and, as Bertonelli explained too, the most advanced in the general standings given the absence of the leader Ten Voorde, the gaps are even closer looking at the ideal times, therefore putting together and 4 best sectors ever among all the riders who took to the track.
Like many others, the Tuscan rider is definitely aiming to become the new leader of the standings by overtaking the Dutch and he placed the accent on further issues to be resolved, also from a race perspective: “Tyre wear plays an important role, after just 2-3 laps you can see a clear difference in terms of lap times and setup, because the effect of the advantage of an aggressive set-up disappears. We are all very close, especially looking at the ideal times, let’s see how we will be in qualifying with the first set of Michelins” .
Finding a good time could help a lot given the traffic of 34 cars on the 4 km of the Roman circuit, also in view of the second best result which is worth the pole position of race 2 (as well as a further 2 points).
The feeling that is gathered between drivers and teams is that to excel the new record of the “992” will be needed, which at the moment belongs to Quaresmini, who last year in the last evo of the 911 GT3 Cup took pole with 1’34″281 , a record almost equaled yesterday by the same driver from Brescia in the test.
Be careful, though, because yesterday’s ideal time is actually 1’33″966. And then really. probably also for race 2, temperatures increasing permitting…
