The president of the grenade after the match against Inter: “There has been an improvement in these two years. Now we complete the project”
June 4 – Turin
“This has been a good season, I’m satisfied with it.” When evening falls on the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, the president of Torino Urbano Cairo re-emerges from the locker room and takes stock of the year. The home defeat against Inter naturally leaves a bitter aftertaste right at the end, but the thought must necessarily include a wider horizon in realizing the balance sheet for an entire season. First of all there is the quantitative aspect, or rather the points: “We scored three points more than last season – the president Urbano Cairo starts here -, and it’s an aspect that’s not bad”.
From play to young people
There are many positive components of this year: from the good game expressed for large parts of the season to the growth of many young players, such as Samuele Ricci and Alessandro Buongiorno, but also the rediscovery of Karamoh and the explosion of Schuurs. “This has been a good season – the president Cairo continues the discussion -, in which in addition to having improved the number of points of a year ago, we have also shown a good game and there have been many young players who have grown. Overall, it was a championship in which there were many good things”.
Juric e l’Inter
Right in the tail end of the championship, Inter gave him a displeasure. “We could have hoped to make that last effort against Inter – continues the number one of the Granata club -. We didn’t do it, it was a shame also because we played a good game. But we could have done even better…” . When asked if Ivan Juric will remain on the Turin bench again next season, president Cairo immediately replies: “Definitely yes”. On the other hand, this has always been the line of the club for months, which absolutely wants to continue with the Croatian coach. Juric has a contract with Turin until 30 June 2024. On Friday, for example, after speaking at the TV Festival in Dogliani (Cuneo), he said: “In these two years we have made progress, there has been an improvement. Now we have to complete the project.”
The displeasure of having seen eighth place slip away in the last ninety minutes is also shared by Ricardo Rodriguez. The Swiss defender was the captain of Torino for the first season, protagonist of an excellent year both for continuity of performance and for his versatility (used both as a central defender and as a left winger). “We wanted to win against Inter, who will be in the Champions League final, and we’re sorry it ended like this – Rodriguez said -. We had a good second half, while we could have done better in the first”. Throughout the season, Rodriguez also accompanied both Perr Schuurs in his brilliant first Italian championship and Alessandro Buongiorno in a dizzying growth that pushed him into coach Roberto Mancini’s national team. “The three of us work really well together – adds Rodriguez – all together we had a good season”. The captain’s overall balance is “positive, we did well. Unfortunately, we could have won a few more games, because we threw away some opportunities. But I’m satisfied and happy because all the guys worked well”.
