Lidl has partnered with Bizum. The third largest supermarket chain in Spain, after Mercadona and Carrefour, together with the payment service that is sweeping our country with more than 23 million active users. In a move to try to offer an alternative to credit cards, from Lidl they have decided to try a new payment method: Bizum.
Be it food, clothing or appliances. Lidl has added payment by Bizum as an alternative to Visa, Mastercard or Google Pay. It is not the first time that the German chain has tried a new payment mechanism, as it also has the Aplazame service that allows you to pay in installments. The addition of Bizum is another step in this direction of offering alternatives.
Bizum begins to conquer the large supermarkets
At the moment this new payment option with Bizum is now available in your online store. Those customers interested in making the purchase and paying for it through Bizum will be able to do so without the need for a credit card. Simply sending the money from your mobile.
The mechanism, as Lidl itself explains, is very simple. We choose Bizum, enter the telephone number and the purchase is validated with the Bizum password or SMS, depending on how Bizum works for each bank. It’s a process equivalent to sending a Bizum to a friendbut in this case it is the supermarket.
Lidl’s alliance with Bizum is a symbol of the reach that this payment method has in Spain and of how the security of online payments has improved enough for such a large company to be encouraged to accept them.
There are still no details on whether Lidl intends to extend this Bizum payment option to its physical stores. We will have to wait for the system to settle in its online store and if it works, who knows if it could be extended to traditional supermarkets.
