“Barbie” is an upcoming movie that is about to be released on July 21 in theaters around the world. The truth is that getting into the skin of this renowned doll is a challenge for anyone.
Expectations, comparisons or pressure always work against the chosen actor, no matter how good and talented he is. In “Barbie”, Margot Robbie will have to silence the critics. It must be said that the Australian did not consider playing the doll in her jump to the big screen and there were plenty of actresses willing to take up the challenge and don their blonde wig. Below is a list of some of those names.
Amy Schumer
In 2014, Sony showed interest in bringing the doll to the big screen, but it would not be until 2016 when it added Amy Schumer to the project. The story followed a woman who, after being expelled from Barbie-ville for not being perfect, had to live in the real world. However, its development was delayed and Schumer herself ended up leaving the film and turning her career elsewhere.
In a later interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he revealed the real reason he didn’t go through with it: “They didn’t want to do it the way I wanted, the only way I was interested in doing it.“.
Anne Hathaway
In August 2017, the name of Anne Hathaway began to sound like a possible replacement at the head of Barbie. Likewise, Sony announced that the film would finally be released in August 2018, directed by Alethea Jones. However, the production did not finish starting and in January 2018, “Barbie” was delayed until 2020, with Hathaway still on board to play the leading lady.
A year later, Mattel broke the collaboration with Sony and took the project to Warner, with Margot Robbie as producer and star.
Gal Gadot
Despite being involved in the project as a producer, with Gerwig already directing, Robbie wasn’t sure she was the perfect Barbie. In a recent interview for Vogue, the Australian has revealed that she and Greta both thought of Gal Gadot as their first choice for the main doll. “Gal Gadot has the energy of Barbie,” said the actress.
