From a Polestar to an Audi 80: you can take beautiful photos with any car. We see that again in this edition of the Photo of the Month.
Spring has finally arrived. That means that all supercars, convertibles and classics can be taken from the stable and sunny pictures can be shot. We choose the most beautiful again, to reward the photographer with a Kamera Express gift voucher worth € 100.
In order to make a professional judgment, we will again receive help from our regular jury member Eric van Vuuren. In addition, @noortjeblokland can be part of the jury this month, because she took the winning photo last month.
Third place: Polestar 2
There is enough diversity again this month, because we start with a Polestar. This was captured by @sparc at an interesting location: the runway of Soesterberg Air Base.
Noortje: “This must have been a very pleasant shoot: all the space in the world and a minimalist car with clean lines. In other words: few reflections and no disturbing factors in the picture. Very clean! Moreover, I think the relatively light post-processing is very appropriate for a Polestar.”
Eric: “This photo seems to come straight out of a commercial or something like that… The long airstrip, the rising sun, the minimalist Swede who is beautifully framed. Admittedly, it may not be super exciting, but I think it is creative. The choice for a lower shutter speed also contributes to the overall atmosphere and creates a dynamic image.”
Machiel: “Polestar is a brand that implements minimalism very consistently in all their expressions and @sparc has understood that well. This is a very clean composition. Maybe a little too clean for my taste, but it fits the car perfectly. The timing of the shoot is also good, with beautiful light.”
Second place: Aston Martin V12 Speedster
This seems like a planned shoot, but nothing could be further from the truth. @Row1 was actually shooting two other cars at this location when this V12 Speedster showed up out of nowhere. Fortunately, the owner was not too bad to have his car pose for the camera.
Eric: “Our regular contributor Row1 is back and this time (spontaneously) got something very special in front of his lens! Wow! It’s wonderful how something like this can happen and Row1 makes perfect use of the opportunity to photograph this special British supercar. It’s great that he once again ensured that the car is not completely in the middle of the frame, but rather nicely divided in combination with the backdrop. Fortunately, he has also pulled out the saturation of the green grass behind it, so that that popping red color gets even more attention.”
Machiel: “The V12 Speedster is inspired by classic racing cars and the location fits that very well in my opinion (even though it was not planned). The post-processing with the warm tones also contributes to a vintage atmosphere, which works out very well. Not only Rowan, but also the owner is lucky with this chance encounter!”
Noortje: “Such an exclusive paint color splashes off your screen, partly due to the beautiful color grading afterwards! The composition – certainly in combination with the impressive bridge in the background – could have been a bit more exciting, however: for a quick snapshot, this is certainly not a bad photo.”
First place: Audi 80
From an EV and a modern supercar, we are going to a classic Audi. This was beautifully captured by @archiebald, who can also call himself (co-) owner of this car.
Machiel: “Cars from the 1960s and 1970s have a certain charm that modern cars lack. This is again evident in this photo. The atmosphere is splashing with the warm color palette and the low sun shining through the trees. It also has just enough movement. Not too little, but not too much, because that would not suit the car. In short: a winner!”
Eric: “That it doesn’t matter what you photograph is clear this month. An Audi 80 taking the win over an Aston Martin V12 Speedster? I can hardly imagine a greater contrast. A wonderfully subtle car-2-car shot of this modified German with a low-lying sun creates such an atmospheric image that immediately makes me feel like sending a round again. No heavy post-processing or difficult framing, simplicity remains very strong.”
Noortje: “Beautiful, autumnal colours, the ‘leading lines’ that, as it were, take you as a spectator into the photo and a beautiful balance of light and dark. Also very nice that the Audi is not exactly in the middle of the image, this makes the composition more exciting. Despite the backlight and shadow, the Audi can still be seen relatively well, nice piece of post-processing. All in all a very atmospheric and nice photo to look at!”
This photo is therefore unanimously voted Autoblog Photo of the Month here. Congratulations @archiebald! We will make sure that you receive the Kamera Express voucher at home. On to the next round!
