LONDON – Camilla, 75, underwent several title changes during her tenure as a member of the royal family. She was once the Duchess of Cornwall to become Queen. But what would her name be if her husband, King Charles III, died?
According to the Mirror, Prince William will one day become King of England. That would cause Camilla’s stepmother to be given a new title. Queen Camilla’s role and title is subject to uncertainty and contention as she entered the British Royal Family through an affair and second marriage to King Charles.
Here are 4 facts about Queen Camilla if King Charles dies.
1. Not First Marriage to King Charles

Titles for Camilla when William becomes king after his father’s death will be even more complicated. Camilla and Charles were crowned monarchs during their coronation on May 6, 2023. When Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, Lady Diana was still addressed by the same nickname. Even after they divorced in 1996, Lady Diana retained the same title, Princess of Wales.
The reason is, Camilla, was married to her first husband Andrew Parker Bowles from 1973 to 1995. Diana later died in a car accident in 1997. When Camilla and Charles married in 2005 and out of respect for Lady Diana, the former Mrs. Parker Bowles did not use “Princess of Wales”.
At the time of Charles and Camilla’s wedding, there were rumors that Camilla would adopt the “Princess Consort” style. When Charles finally ascended the throne, apparently, the late Queen Elizabeth had a change of heart.
When Elizabeth II died after 70 years of service in September 2022, Charles immediately became king and Camilla became known as queen consort.
Finally, Charles and Camilla were officially crowned at an elaborate coronation on 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey, London. The title of the mother of two was changed, removing the bit “consort” from her name, and becoming Queen.
2. Received Blessing from the late Queen Elizabeth

Before Elizabeth died at the age of 96, she gave Camilla her stamp of approval to become queen.
“And when, in due time, my son Charles becomes king, I know you will provide him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen as she continues her loyal service,” he wrote in a February 2022 letter. “I remain grateful and humbled for the loyalty and affection you continue to bestow upon me, she added.
3. Will be called Queen Dowager
If Charles, 74, dies before Camilla, she will have the name “queen dowager” assigned to her.
