KIEV – President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky mengeklaim Patriot anti-missile system supplied by the United States (US) 100 percent shot down a barrage of missiles Russia that fired on Monday.
However, Zelensky’s claim is odd because there was damage to a military site that was the target of Moscow’s attack.
“When the Patriot in the hands of Ukraine ensures one hundred percent downfall of the Russian missile, the terror is gone,” Zelensky said in a video address last night, as quoted by RTE, Tuesday (30/5/2023).
“With our (military) successes (against Russia), our pressure, our Patriots, we must and will continue to respond to all manifestations of Russian crimes. And we will destroy these crimes,” he said.
Zelensky’s comments come after Russia bombarded the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv—which Russia calls Kiev—and other Ukrainian targets overnight and during the day using missiles and drones. It was the latest in a series of Moscow airstrikes.
Military Commander of Ukraine General Valery Zaluzhny said that Russian troops fired 11 ballistic and cruise missiles at Kyiv in the morning.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said it launched several strikes with long-range precision air-launched weapons against Ukrainian military airfields. The ministry claimed to have destroyed all of the targeted facilities.
The Russian attack during the day followed the previous night’s bombing with drones and cruise missiles. Kyiv’s military said Ukraine’s air defenses downed 40 Russian targets.
Regional authorities in Ukraine also provided a rare acknowledgment of damage to military targets in the western Khmelnitskiy region due to Russian strikes.
