So, it is clear that this actor knows the gaming industry. In an interview with IGN that took place before the release of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, he said that video game adaptations often fail for one simple reason: control is taken away from the player.
“There are many (films) that failed. Part of that is because what we love about video games is that we are the one playing them; We control the action. We don’t necessarily want a director and a team of people controlling our point of view and telling us what the story is within it. We want to carve that story for ourselves,” explained David Harbour.

The Hollywood star confessed that he is not a fan of the Gran Turismo franchise, but explains that he agreed to make the film because it is based on true events. In addition, he assures that he reminds him of a sports tape.
“It’s great because the video game is part of the movie. I mean, it’s about a guy who played games and then took that experience and turned it on. It really becomes, for me, like a great sports movie (…) That is the story of a boy who plays video games and nobody believes in him, ”said the actor.
Neill Blomkamp, director of the film, thinks something similar. In the interview, he confessed that it was impossible to make a movie about Gran Turismo, since the game is a racing simulator. However, it is the story based on true events that convinced him to participate.
