MOSCOW – Russia could be shaken by a new revolution if the war effort is on Ukraine continued. The warning came from the head of a private military group Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin.
In an interview with pro-Russian blogger Konstantin Dolgov, Prigozhin said that Russian troops were unprepared against troops loyal to Kiev even when they entered Russian territory.
He also praised the capabilities of the Ukrainian army, and urged Moscow to step up its war effort if it is to avoid a long and costly conflict.
“I believe that Ukraine is currently one of the strongest armies in the world,” Prigozhin said as quoted by CNN, Thursday (25/5/2023).
He said the Kiev forces were highly organised, highly trained and their intelligence was at the highest level, they could operate any military system with equal success, Soviet or NATO.
In recent days, Moscow suffered an embarrassment when a group of anti-Putin Russian militants entered the Belgorod region in an attack that caused anger and confusion among influential Russian military analysts.
Asked about the incident, Prigozhin said the Russian defense forces were completely unprepared to engage them in any condition or form.
“Here we are with Ukraine, it is our enemy, in the middle of the war, Russian Volunteer Corps groups entered easily and crossed (the border) with tanks and APCs without any repercussions and made their own videos,” said the Wagner boss.
Prigozhin has frequently criticized Russia’s traditional military hierarchy as he seeks to win a power struggle against military commanders to lead Putin’s ground effort in eastern Ukraine. Earlier this month he blamed the Russian defense chief for “tens of thousands” of Wagner’s troops falling victim to not having enough ammunition.
