WASHINGTON – The supreme general of the military United States of America (USA), Mark Milley, on Thursday said Ukraine should not use American weaponry in the region Russia .
The comments by the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff come after the Russian defense ministry released video footage of several vehicles being destroyed, including an American-made Humvee combat truck, in Belgorod. The video recording has been verified.
The footage was released after Moscow accused pro-Ukrainian militias of using US armored vehicles to attack Belgorod, the Russian region bordering Ukraine, earlier this week.
According to General Milley, America has long asked Ukraine not to use US-supplied military equipment to carry out attacks inside Russia.
Milley continued that his office was investigating videos of military vehicles and hardware being used in cross-border attacks by militia in the Belgorod region.
“I can’t tell you with any accuracy at this time whether it was – and I saw the same video – whether it was US-supplied equipment or not, what was the nature of the attack, who did what to whom,” General Milley Milley told a news conference in Pentagon, as quoted by Reuters, Friday (26/5/2023).
“I can’t say that for sure at this time, but I can say that we have asked Ukraine not to use US-supplied equipment for a direct strike on Russia,” Milley continued.
Russia said that Kiev forces had killed a resident in the Belgorod region and Moscow was threatening Kiev, stating that it would respond very strongly to any future attack.
After two days of fighting in the southern Belgorod region, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told military officials: “We will continue to respond quickly and very strongly to the actions of the Ukrainian militants.”
