The 24 Hours of Le Mans will start on June 10, a race that has been secretly taking place under our radar for a while. What we do know about it is that Toyota usually dominates the circuit there and that they will ensure that we will have a good look this year. The Japanese promise to reveal a sporty concept car there, and something tells us that we want to see this.
Toyota GR Prius?
As a preview, Toyota has shared a first teaser photo of the up-and-coming sportsman, and at first glance you can just see the light signature of a darkened Le Mans racer. However, a more detailed look – or just fiddling with the brightness in your photos app – reveals that the two blocky LED elements are incorporated into a street-legal-looking bumper. This in turn is mounted on the sloping nose of a car that looks very much like the new Toyota Prius, just look at that subtly visible piece of grille and the placement of the number plate. The latter also indicates that this will not be just any Prius, but one tackled by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing department.
Toyota already indicates that it is a concept car that is packed with technology from racing, but that does not mean that nothing street legal can result from this. With this, Toyota would respond to the tuning world that has already somewhat set its sights on the new Prius, and that is not entirely surprising. For example, the super hybrid not only looks a lot more attractive than before, but it is also well equipped in terms of power. So if Toyota’s GR division can turn the Yaris and the Corolla into true sports cars…why not the Prius?
