The director of Doctor Strange himself explained that the problem with transferring Nightmare to the big screen was conveying the idea of the Dream Dimension as another dimension through a film that was already challenging enough with a lot of exposure, so they went for Dormammu. “We decided not to do that because it’s a bit of a complex idea, to present the idea of nightmares themselves as a dimension,” the filmmaker explained to Empire at the time. “I hope that at some point we can explore that because I think it’s a cool concept.”
