Final Fantasy XVI is less than a month away from release and we recently got a lot of information about it thanks to previews and interviews. Part of the news that has been revealed about the highly anticipated JRPG is that Square Enix has no plans to release any downloadable content for this title and that’s for good reason.
In a chat with Game Informer, Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy XVI explained that Square Enix has no plans to release a DLC for this JRPG. It’s not that the development team isn’t interested in expanding his world or anything like that. What happens is that at the moment they have another priority: to have the game ready.
“We are asking players to pay full price for this experience, so we want it to be one that is worth the amount of money players are going to pay and we want them to have the satisfaction that is equal to what they paid or more of that,” Yoshida explained.

That being said, just because Yoshida and his team see Final Fantasy XVI as an individual experience doesn’t mean they’re against the idea of releasing more content from the world of Valisthea. In fact, he reckons that if there’s enough interest they’re interested in some sort of post-launch support.
“We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and Clive’s story and want to see more of the world and its characters. So while we always look at DLC, spin-offs or those kinds of things where you can learn more about the game, we first want to see if Valisthea and Clive are things that players around the world want to see more of and then we’ll make the decision. Yoshida said.
No doubt Square Enix’s approach will prove refreshing. After all, in recent years we’ve seen a lot of games that, before they were released, have a lot of post-launch content planned, which makes players feel like they’re getting an incomplete experience at launch.
