July 14 is the scheduled date for the return of ‘Foundation’ to Apple TV +. The series, based on the mythical saga of books by Isaac Asimov, aroused some controversy in its first year due to its necessary distance from the work of the author of ‘I, Robot’. This new installment, which takes place a hundred years after what we were told thereit does not seem that it will differentiate in that.
This time we will see how the Cleon dynasty falls apart and a vengeful queen plans to destroy the Empire from within. Hari, Gaal, and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself. All this against the background that the Foundation has entered its religious phase, promulgating the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Circle and leading to the heralded Second Crisis: war with the Empire.
Jared Harris y Lee Pace return to lead the excellent cast of the series, who are joined by Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey, whom we already saw in the first season playing characters that changed significantly from the originals. To them, taking into account the time jump, new actors and actresses are added, such as Isabella Laughland (Brother Constant), Kulvinder Ghir (Poly Verisof), Ella-Rae Smith (Queen Sareth), Holt McCallany (Jaegger Fount), Rachel House (Tellem Bond), Nimrat Kaur (Yanna Seldon), Ben Daniels (Bel Riose) and Dimitri Leonidas (Hober Mallow).
David S. Goyer, screenwriter of films such as Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, is the director and showrunner of this adaptation, which once again shines for its dazzling visual finish, perhaps the most suggestive and personal on television today. Though the series makes many debatable decisions (some necessary, given the inadaptability of the source material), that visionary portrayal of the far future, full of whimsy and evocative imagery, lives on. Let’s see if the conflict between the most ambitious and influential powers in the galaxy continues to hold interest.
