The Empolese is the coach’s new name for the final four in June. Pressing Retegui, for the center forward there is a risk of overlapping dates
Nicolò Cambiaghi could be the new name (one of the new names?) of the national team for the final four of the Nations League in June in the Netherlands. Winning this tournament (semifinal in Enschede against Spain on June 15th, possible final in Rotterdam on the 18th) would also give an important boost for the decisive qualifying matches for the European Championship in September. And Roberto Mancini is evaluating the best forces, especially in attack, where he often had to face an emergency. Compared to March, he will recover – fingers crossed – Immobile and Raspadori, but he lost Scamacca: an emerging striker, flexible and with a sense of goal like Cambiaghi, who in Empoli experiences the season of definitive takeoff before the probable return to Atalanta ( 6 goals and an assist, the last five games all played as a starter), can be perfect to complete the attack.
The department will obviously include Mateo Retegui, for whom diplomatic action is being sought that will allow him to join the group as early as June 4 or 5, in Rome before flying to Sardinia for the expected pre-holiday retreat (6-9 June). The problem is that the centre-forward should play on June 6 in the Copa Sudamericana (Tigre-Puerto Cabello) and according to Fifa rules, his club can keep him: counting on the will of the player, available to join the national team as early as the start of the match, a solution can be found. Until the 11th the coach will already have to give up the Inter players (many more) or Milan players involved in the Champions League final (June 10), but above all he considers the 10 days that will precede the Nations semi-final which are essential to help Retegui – in March the he only had available for a few days – to further integrate into the group and into the principles of the game of the national team.
