This summer the live-action Barbie movie will hit theaters and its director has revealed her sources of inspiration.
If we review the trailers and poster of the Barbie movie, we realize how important the tone and the choice of colors have been. For this reason, it is interesting to know what they have been inspired by and the director Greta Gerwig has revealed in a recent interview with Vogue that she looked at classic Hollywood musicals such as The Red Shoes from 1948 and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) from 1964.
Greta Gerwig praised cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto for getting the colors they were looking for: “They have such a high level of what we call true artificiality. Since you have a painted sky in a sound studio. Which is an illusion, but it’s also really there. The painted background is really there. The tangibility of the artifice is something we keep coming back to.”
