KABUL – A commander Taliban Afghanistan claims its organization soon conquers Iran when tensions rose over the water dispute between the two countries, which left three people dead.
In a video released by the Taliban, an unnamed senior commander said his organization would fight Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) with more vigour than it would against United States (US) troops.
He added that the Taliban would soon conquer Iran if the leaders of the Taliban, who now rule Afghanistan, gave the green light.
Not only the commander’s video, the Taliban also released another video containing mockery of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi which is now viral on social media.
In the video, quoted by The Jerusalem Post, Tuesday (30/5/2023), a Taliban member fills a yellow jerry can with water, sarcastically saying: “Mr Raisi, take this water barrel and don’t attack, we are scared.”
Iranian state media has not been clear about the clashes that took place last weekend in the region bordering Afghanistan. State media only claimed in one report that it was linked to drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government claims that the Taliban shot IRGC officers at the border first. However, the Taliban claim otherwise.
Other media sources including the Associated Press (AP) and Iran International reported that the clashes occurred over a water dispute, a report which synchronized with a video released by the Taliban.
Earlier in May, Raisi warned the Taliban not to infringe on Iran’s rights over the Helmand River which is shared between the two countries.
