TAIPEI – The Taiwan Navy will receive its fourth Tuo Chiang multipurpose stealth corvette in June amid tensions in the Taiwan Strait with China.
Taiwan’s news agency reported on Monday, citing one source.
“A total of 11 such ships will be built for the Taiwan Navy by the end of 2026,” the report said.
The corvette is 60.4 meters long and 14 meters wide, with a maximum speed of 30 knots and a displacement of 685 tonnes.
The ship is armed with eight Hsiung Feng-III supersonic anti-ship missiles, eight Hsiung Feng-II subsonic anti-ship missiles, one 76 mm gun and Tien-Chien II air defense missiles.
Taiwan’s Lungteh Shipbuilding is involved in the production of the Tuo Chiang corvette. Tuo Chiang became one of the mainstays in maintaining the security of Taiwan’s waters and strengthening its defense capabilities.
Tuo Chiang is also known as a multi-mission stealth corvette, having a sophisticated design, high stealth capabilities, and wide operational capabilities.
By combining advanced technology and tactical advantages, the ship is an important component in Taiwan’s maritime defense force.
The Tuo Chiang has a variety of features and capabilities that make it superior among other corvettes. Its design adopts stealth principles, which allows it to reduce its radar signature and increase its ability to operate undetected in enemy waters.
