Il super typhoon Mawar – renamed Betty by the Philippine Meteorological Service – is moving across the Pacific Ocean with extremely intense winds and gusts reaching about 215 km per hour: it is officially the most powerful storm of 2023at least so far.

Mawar is also the first cyclone of the year to reach the Philippines, considered the most exposed country in the world to tropical storms. According to forecasts, the stage of more severe weather will occur between tomorrow, Monday 29 May, and Wednesday 31.

According to the expected trajectory, the typhoon should not land directly on the Philippines, but skirt the archipelago to the east. However on the islands, especially in the northern sectors of the country, they are extremely intense phenomena are expectedwith monsoon rains, very strong winds and dangerous storm surges.
