Todd Howardthe director of the highly anticipated space RPG Starfield Of Bethesdaexplained how Bethesda Game Studios has managed to create an incredible amount of planets in his most ambitious title ever. It was last June during the Xbox Summer Showcase where Starfield gameplay was first unveiled and where Howard stated that the massive space RPG will offer gamers over 100 star systems and over 1,000 planets to explore and to get lost in.
However, the acclaimed game designer has appeared on the podcast of Starfield Signal to provide some insight into the process behind creating over 1,000 unique and individual planets for Starfield. On the podcast Howard explained that the studio came up with a new development technique for Starfield: taking large landscape textures, many of them they feature structures and elements made by hand, are then literally wrapped around the surface of a planet thus bringing everything together. When the 1,000 planet count came out, many players speculated that the title would use procedural generation for most of its planets, thus only featuring a small number of carefully handcrafted areas or planets. But knowing Bethesda’s care in creating high quality and unique environments, and hearing Howard use the words “some handmade elements” is something that can certainly reassure fans.
Starfield will arrive on PC and Xbox Series X|S il September 9th. Stay up to date with us while waiting dell’Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct taking place in a few days.
