JERUSALEM – The team Israel destroying the family home Palestine in the West Bank on Tuesday (23/5/2023). The house belongs to the family of the perpetrator of the deadly shooter in the heart of Tel Aviv in March.
“Army and border police forces demolished the house of terrorist Mutaz Khawaja in the village of Nilin, who carried out the shooting attack on March 9, 2023 on Dizengoff Street, Tel Aviv,” the Israeli military said in a statement as quoted by New Arab.
Khawaja, 23, is a member of Hamas’ armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, said the Palestinian Islamist group that governs Gaza.
He was shot dead by Israeli police following the attack, which killed one Israeli and injured two others.
Human rights groups view the policy as a form of collective punishment, part of Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank.
His home village is located close to the Green Line that separates Israel from the occupied West Bank, and nearly 20 kilometers from Tel Aviv.
Mayor Nilin Yusef Khawaja said Israeli forces forced all residents of the four-story apartment block to flee their homes before demolishing the shooter’s first-floor flat at dawn.
The Israeli army later released a video of troops setting up the explosives before blowing up the apartment.
