“I love playing him, and I love the fact that they’re opening him up to all these other possibilities and all this life that he has,” says Samuel L. Jackson on Empire, talking about that new side of Nick Fury that we’ll see on the show.
“That’s why I hope I’m not done, and in this new phase of the MCU I’m still floating in and out of there, somehow.”
And it is that, for the first time, we are going to meet the Nick Fury more human and vulnerablestripped to his usual black trench coat, and it appears that in many scenes he won’t even be wearing his eyepatch.
“All those things were from a Nick Fury who was invulnerable. Here’s a guy showing his face and showing his age. It’s an opportunity to humanize someone who everyone thinks is superhuman.”
In the end, both Nick Fury and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), who also returns to the MCU, are human. “A single bullet can kill them, and that’s something you don’t always see in the MCU, that tension and fear and vulnerability,” says producer Jonathan Schwartz.
secret invasion will air on Disney+ starting on June 21and we’ll see if it’s the end of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (who’s already died and risen twice in the MCU)… or if he’ll return for future Phase 5 and 6 movies.
