LONDON – Intelligence English report Russia targeting air defense systems Ukraine which was upgraded as part of its attack on the country. But the effort seems to have had little effect.
“Russia had little success in its probable objective of neutralizing Ukrainian air defense upgrades and destroying Ukraine’s counter-strike forces,” the UK Ministry of Defense said in its intelligence update as quoted from Insider, Thursday (1/6/2023).
In its latest update, the UK Ministry of Defense describes the recent series of airstrikes in Ukraine.
“During May 2023, Russia has launched 20 one-way night strikes with unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missile attacks deep inside Ukraine,” he said.
Russia has recently stepped up its drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities far from the front lines, which Ukraine says have resulted in civilian deaths.
But the UK Ministry of Defense described Russia as focused instead on reacting to Ukraine’s moves rather than being proactive in its war.
“Since early May 2023, Russia has increasingly given up the initiative in the conflict and reacted to Ukraine’s actions rather than actively advancing towards its own war goals,” he said.
The UK Ministry of Defense said earlier this month that Russia’s new priority was targeting air defenses, after being embarrassed by Ukraine shooting down several Kinzhal missiles it previously vaunted as unstoppable.
