The Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco) presented a report announcing which food distribution center in the country has the highest prices for the basic basket.
In October 2022 the government agreed a maximum price for the basic basket of 1,039 pesos, which the Central de Abasto de Mérida is not complying with.

Of the 24 products that Mexican families consume the most, the Central de Abasto de Mérida exceeds the maximum amount agreed by the authorities, offering the basic basket in 1,117 pesos.
This Central de Abastos heads the list of high prices, while the rest of the establishments or supermarkets sell that package between 842 and 1,020 pesos, according to the “Who is who in the prices of basic necessities”.
The supply centers Durango and Monterrey presented high prices of 1,011 and 1,012 pesos, respectively.

The Walmart stores in the Benito Juárez mayor’s office, in Mexico City, and in León, in Guanajuato, presented prices of 1,020 and 1,011 pesos.
Meanwhile, the lowest prices were located in two Chedraui stores: one in Puebla and the other in Veracruz, at 842 and 844 pesos for each basic basket, respectively.
