Overwatch 2 is a very diverse video game. It not only features characters from a ton of countries and cultures, but also from different sexual orientations. Blizzard Entertainment will push for inclusion going forward, but is aware that LGBTQIA+ content is problematic in some regions.
This week, the developer studio shared the first details of the next Pride event, which will start on June 1 and will seek to celebrate Pride Month with many free items. In addition, he announced that 2 classic characters are part of the LGBTQIA + collective.
Overwatch 2’s diverse content that aims to honor the queer community generated all kinds of reactions on social networks and forums, as expected. It also raised genuine concerns, especially for those players residing in countries where such topics are prohibited by law.

Overwatch’s LGBTQIA+ content will be blocked in some countries
Blizzard Entertainment recognizes that LGBTQIA+ issues are controversial and even punishable by law in certain territories of the world, which is why it made the decision to block the Pride event and all related content as appropriate. This was confirmed by members of the company in an interview with the Dexerto portal.
“We have technologies to limit this content from going out to countries that have laws that do not tolerate LGBT content. This helps us protect those players,” said senior producer Brandy Stiles.

“Our values are to protect the players. We want to protect players around the world. You can equip a cosmetic in one country and travel to another place with different rules and get into trouble. So we feel it’s our responsibility to help protect people like that and to comply with the laws of the countries in which we operate,” said Aaron Keller, director of Overwatch 2.
Players residing in countries with intolerant laws will not even have a chance to participate in the event. The developer studio did not disclose the list of regions where the content will be blocked or explain in detail how the censorship will work.
