The Spy X Family manga was released in 2019, and quickly achieved great popularity. The success of this work eventually led it to be adapted into an anime series which, as expected, gained a lot of recognition.
The personality and way of being of Anya, one of the main characters, captivated many of the fans. However, incredible as it may seem, the design and qualities of this little girl are based on another character from a previous story by the creator de Spy X Family, Tatsuya Endo.
In a recent interview with one of the editors of Spy X Family named Shihei Lin, published in MANGA Plus, the editor has revealed that, for the creation of the character of Anya, were based on a character from one of the creator’s previous one-shot manga.
Lin states the following: “Anya’s design was inspired by the main character of the one-shot “Rengoku no Ashe” in Jump Square. They resemble each other, with Anya having ESP and Ashe being a witch. Anya’s ability to read minds came quite early in the planning stage. I remember we decided in a meeting how broad her abilities would be. The way that her abilities are used for comedic effect in SPY x FAMILY is one of the virtues of the title, I think.”

This character, Ashe Talton, is a witch. belonging to the one-shot manga by Tatsuya Endo, called Rengoku no Ashe. As Lin describes, the creation of Anya was based on this character.
It is quite evident the physical resemblance between both charactersas they have a very similar shade of pink in their hair, white complexion, and even wear the same head ornaments on their heads.
And that’s not the only resemblance between these two girls, as Lin admits that Anya’s extrasensory abilities and Ashe’s witch powers they are parallel aspectsso they are not only similar in physical appearance.
The interview with Shihei Lin not only exposed these details regarding Anya’s creation, but also exposed various quite interesting data regarding the creation and development of history.
Shihei let it be known as follows: “I remember talking at length with Endo-sensei about make this a lighthearted title. In both TISTA and Gekka Bijin, the characters and the plot became dark, so for this third serialization we both wanted to change things up and create something more positive.”
