Nvidia Corp announced on Monday that it is building Israel’s most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) Supercomputer to meet the growing demand for AI applications.
The cloud-based system, called Israel-1is expected to have a yield of up to eight exaflops of AI computing, which would make it one of the World’s fastest AI supercomputers.
Nvidia, the world’s most valuable chip company, said the system it would cost hundreds of millions of dollars and be partially operational by the end of 2023.
Gilad Shainer, a senior vice president at Nvidia, said the company works with 800 startups in Israel and tens of thousands of software engineers.
Shainer stated that AI is the “most important technology in our life” and that large graphics processing units (GPUs) are needed to develop AI applications and AI generation. “Generative AI is everywhere today. You need to be able to run the training on large data sets,” Nvidia’s first priority for the supercomputer is its Israeli partners. “We could use this system to work with partners outside of Israel in the future,” he said.
