They’ll be the only RTX cards that a lot of people will be able to afford, but it feels like we’re down a notch from the previous generation.
After numerous rumors and leaks, we already have here the new entry cards RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti. A new generation of “cheap” boards with prices from 335 eurosbut what do they leave a trace of disappointment among gamersbecause they seem like a throwback from the previous generation.
NVIDIA today introduced three models: RTX 4060 with 8 GB of VRAM for 335 euros, RTX 4060 TI with 8 GB for 449 euros, and an RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB for 559 euros.
A couple of years ago those were mid-range prices, rather than entry-level. But the problem is not only this increase, but the cut in hardware.
So are the new RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti
The first problem is that use less graphics memory than the previous generation. The RTX 3060 has 12 GB of RAM, while the RTX 4060 has dropped to 8 GB. There is also an RTX 4060 Ti model with 8 GB.
Modern games demand more and more VRAMand they are even having performance problems due to this issue, as has recently happened with Hogwarts Legacy or Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.
On the other hand, NVIDIA itself indicates on its website that the “target” of these cards is to play at 1080p at more than 60 fps, when in the previous generation, the RTX 3060 aspired to move games to 1440p.
They do have a great asset: DLSS 3 technology, with which they manage to double the performance of the previous generation, as can be seen in the graph above. But you can’t trust everything to the supersampling that an AI generates, instead of the real image. and for the moment few games support DLSS 3.
In the specifications section, the RTX 4060 has 3072 CUDA Cores, with a clock speed of up to 2.46 GHz, and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory. The bandwidth is 128 bits, with connection to the PCIe card. 4.0. It has an HDMI 2.1a connector, and three DisplayPort 1.4a.
The RTX 4060 Ti offers 4,352 CUDA cores, clocked at up to 2.54 GHz, and 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. The bandwidth is 128 bits, with connection to the PCIe card. 4.0. They also have an HDMI 2.1a connector, and three DisplayPort 1.4a.
The RTX 4060 with 8 GB of VRAM It costs 335 euros and goes on sale on May 24. The model RTX 4060 TI with 8 GB it costs 449 euros, and an RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB is worth 559 euros. These last two will be out in July.
