Already on the occasion of Eicma Honda had unveiled the new EM1 e: 2023the first electric scooter from the Tokyo House. At the time, however, there was very little technical information. Now, however, Honda reveals us all the secrets of this vehicle.
The EM1 e: is a partly traditional scooter: tubular steel single beam frame, telescopic fork, double shock absorber and front disc/rear drum brake. The novelty is represented by electric motor in the wheel hub and the Honda Mobile Power Pack battery system e: 50 V (10 kg weight), which can be removed to allow recharging at home via the dedicated charger. A single charge offers, under Honda internal test conditions, a range of 41.3 km or, approximately, 48km in ECON mode (30km under WMTC Class 1 test conditions). The complete recharge time, from zero, is approximately 6 hours; while it takes only 2.7 hours (160 minutes) to go from 25% to 75%.
The electric wheel hub motor has a nominal power of 0.58 kW with a peak power of 1.7 kW. The EM1 e:, which reaches a maximum speed of 45 km/h (like the 50 cc), can tackle a 10° gradient with a weight of 75 kg on board. ECON mode smoothes throttle response and reduces power to 0.86kW and top speed, extending range to approximately 30 miles.
