Spalletti’s team falls in Brianza with a goal in each half, the blue reaction in the second half was in vain, which was stopped by Di Gregorio’s saves
First defeat of the Italian champions and the credit goes to Palladino’s Monza who plays a shrewd and intelligent game making the most of the voltage drop in a Napoli that demonstrates its human nature and therefore falls 2-0. At this point, however, it becomes difficult to beat Sarri’s record of 91 points: Spalletti should win them all. For Berlusconi and Galliani’s club the dream of an eighth place that could smell of Europe continues.
Reasons
—
The hosts show more motivation than the Italian champions. Yet Spalletti inserts Bereszynski on the right, Zerbin as an attacking left winger deploying the starting midfield and a goal-hungry Osimhen for the title of top scorer. But Napoli’s ball possession is slow, the movement in the spaces is not the “usual” and the ball also turns not at an unpredictable speed so the Monza defense with Marlon in the center can easily read the opponents’ movements, also because the full-backs Ciurria and Augusto stay low to prevent doubles on the wings of the champions. This does not mean that Palladino’s team only defends, as soon as it can it goes vertical looking to the left for Caprari and Augusto himself who arrives at the cross with some effectiveness. And so after a few minutes Mota Carvalho arrives at the dirty but dangerous shot. When the hosts attack they do it with several men and this creates some headaches for the Neapolitans who thwart another opportunity but concede in the 18th minute. There are at least 5 Monza shirts in the last twenty meters of Napoli, with the ball moved laterally with rapid movements. Augusto inside for Pessina who finds himself between Gollini’s feet on the way out but manages to serve Mota Carvalho from outside who can’t go wrong. Monza deservedly ahead and Naples unable to engage a gear change. Only in the final were the blues dangerous with a quick and precise dribble in the area that led to Anguissa’s shot: good Di Gregorio to block the first shot in the visitors’ goal. The goalkeeper himself is able to anticipate Zerbin after Lobotka is out.
Kvara? No, Petagna
—
In the second half, Spalletti immediately inserts Kvaratskhelia, but Monza is still the most effective in the offensive zone. After a good opportunity wasted by Anguissa, here is the doubling with the classic goal of the ex. It is still Mota who dangerously arrives at the shot, Gollini rejects as he can and Petagna is skilled with his left foot to place in the unguarded corner of the goal. At this point Spalletti changes his right wing, which has suffered a lot, and with Di Lorenzo, Politano and even Raspadori switching to a 4-2-3-1 that seems a little more effective with all the best men. Palladino takes precautions by inserting a fresher Birindelli to mark Kvara. In fact Di Gregorio is called to four saves, but three from shots from the edge of Zielinski, Kvara and Raspadori, the more complicated one from Olivera’s header. Then in the final he deviates on Osimhen, to demonstrate in any case that the Azzurri are not going to lose. Too bad about Izzo’s injury. In the end, however, the more than five thousand Neapolitans present at the U-Power stadium applaud their champions: the world of Naples remains in celebration. And rightly so.
