Le Mans – For some time, Paolo Simoncelli follows the boysmakes them grow, takes them to the world championship, as he had done in the past with his son, he big Sic. He is the right person to talk about the results crisis of the Italian riders in Moto3.
“It is a discourse that starts from afar – is his thesis -: it was a mistake to abandon the minibikes. When Marco started, until he was 14, he raced every Sunday, the challenge on the track was very educational, not only from a sporting point of view. With the bikes of today, you always keep the gas open, they don’t learn to make a difference”.
Paolo’s memory of those times is beautiful, in the podcast he retraces the challenges between Sic, Dovizioso, Pasini and all the others.
“Now at 12 they feel they have already arrivedthere’s a rush to switch to high wheels”.
It is natural to make a comparison with what is happening in Spain: according to Simoncelli, “everything is a little easier there, starting with going around the track”.
Paul explains how the family also affects: “They come and tell you: my son is a phenomenon, nobody wants to make sacrifices, they already feel Marquez is world champion several times. And the parents no longer fight to get their child to come”.
Then the discussion widens to Moto3, to the beauty of the category, to the penalties, to the relationship between today’s riders.
“The healthy rivalry of once upon a time is missing. And with the sanctions we have reached the point of ridicule: if you take away the spontaneity of the drivers, you ruin this sport”.
