Once the possibility of seeing Razgatlioglu in the MotoGP vanished, the Japanese manufacturer also had to give up having two other bikes on the track. In the end, the Italian could stay, that’s why

How long Lin Jarvis can say that “Yamaha doesn’t stop” those are just words while instead, in MotoGP as in life, facts count. And the latest facts tell of a Fabio Quartataro who decided to go back to base 2021 while the results on track are disappointing.
Meanwhile it is certain that also for 2024 Yamaha he will not have a satellite team with which to cross-reference data and develop the bikes. Another fact that demonstrates, in some way, the inability and perhaps the decision to not be so competitive.
In all this there is also the passage of Toprak Razgatlioglu from Yamaha to BMW in Superbike, then the farewell of the second main actor, behind Quartararo, from the Japanese manufacturer.
In short, as we have already said many times, it rains in the wet. For the continuation of 2023 and for 2024 the M1 seems destined for the role of supporting actor. A situation, in some ways, inadmissible: a house like Yamaha participates to winnot to show up.
Who next to Quartararo in 2024?
The contract of Franco Morbidelli expires at the end of this season. Up until now, the Moto2 world champion hasn’t given the impression that he can be competitive, even if he had shown himself up front again in Argentina.
It remains difficult to think of a confirmation, although the odds have increased.
Why?
Per several reasons: the first is that Yamaha is not competitive and therefore it’s not attractive for the other pilots. The second reason is that one of the candidates has somehow been blocked by Paul Ciabatti: “George Martin he wouldn’t win in Yamaha, he’d better stay with us”.
Also Alonso Lopez it’s a talent that Yamaha has its eye on. But here too we return to the previous discussion: is it better to go to MotoGP on a bike that, in fact, does not guarantee to be competitive?
For these reasons, Morbidelli’s confirmation seems to be making a comeback at the moment: not so much for Franco’s merits, but for the performance of the M1. We’ll see, there are still 15 GPs to go.
