A numerical analysis and some considerations on who immediately felt comfortable and on who, on the other hand, is in great difficulty
16 maggio 2023
5 out of 20 GPs have been raced so 25% of the season is already behind us and it’s already time to do the first update on the mini-championship of the 7 drivers that have changed bike between 2022 and 2023.
You can find them below, out of seven we have indicated one that cannot be judged, two rejected (for now) e four promoted (always for now). Then let us know if you agree.
Not judgeable
Seventh Pol Espargaro, 0 points: the season of return to KTM for the Spaniard born in 1991 has practically not begun. A very serious accident on Friday in Portimao will keep him away for a long time. Come on Pol!
Failed
Sixth Raul Fernandez, 3 points: after a very promising pre-season (the team manager had made a excessive comparison, to see him now) the pilot born in 2000 has disappeared in the rear. Best placement 11th in the first Sprint race. Very little. Now he has undergone surgery for compartment syndrome and has missed the French races. For now, not good with Aprilia.
Fifth Joan Mir, 5 points: perhaps with a touch of sadism, Marc Marquez never misses an opportunity in interviews to say that his teammates Rins and Mir did worse than him, as soon as they returned, in France. The fact is that the 2020 world champion is in a black period. The 1997 class has not yet made a top ten and out of 10 races he retired six times. Complete darkness: with the RC213V zero feeling.
promoted
Miguel Oliveira Room, 21 point: the rider who switched from KTM to Aprilia had a lot of bad luck. He missed the GP of Argentina due to the accident caused by Marc Marquez at Portimao and is now injured after the accident with Quartararo at Jerez. In between though great racesalways in the top ten. If luck favors him, he can do well: he’s great on the Aprilia.
Third Alex Marquez, 41 points: a very very good start and immediately a podium in Argentina, where he also took pole position. Then he lost his way. But what he showed in the first two races proves that the feeling with the Ducati is there, and quite a lot. Maybe after the first two races he thought he’d already made it to the top. He has to find himself but for now he is promoted.
According to Alex Rins, 47 points: How much of this promotion is due to the Texas race alone? Let’s say 80% if it’s true, as it is, that of the 47 points won by Alex, 34 come from Austin. For the rest, little has been seen but he undoubtedly did better than his former partner Mir. Promoted for now because winning in MotoGP is always a great thing.
First Jack Miller, 49 points: who would have thought? Old Jack is the best in this standings, he has adapted to the KTM and has already shown great things, with the limits ever, unfortunately: how the inability to be constant for a whole weekend (in France he looked like the favorite after Friday, then scored zero points in two races) and there tendency, in the race, to run out of rubber too soon. Too generous. However, among the seven riders in this classification, he is the one who has been seen more often in front and who has achieved a top ten finish in the first four races (and in the last one it seemed he could win).
The next update of this classification will be done after the Austrian GP, in August.
