“I am quite optimistic on the fact that this fara” said the GasGas team manager Hervé Poncharal answering those who asked him if Pol Espargaró rientrerà to the Mugello GP.
On the first day of practice for the Portimão GP, the Spanish rider had a very serious accidentreporting eight fractures, including the one at jaw which prevented him from talking and eating solid foods for a few weeks.
“I spoke to Pol yesterday and the day before yesterday – Poncharal said in an interview with speedweek -. He always feels better. Now he has had a checkup with his surgeon and the MotoGP medical director. Everything is going well. The recovery is progressing faster than could be expected as Pol is an exceptional athlete. But we can’t confirm yet that he can participate in the Italian GP. He will have another medical check-up a week before Mugello.”
Broken vertebrae: ten weeks
The KTM Motorsport director also fueled the hopes of the return of the minor of the Espargaros Pit Beirer who recalled that the broken vertebrae they employ ten weeks to heal. This period will have passed a week before on Friday at Mugello: “You have the right bone strength in case of a fracture after eight or ten weeks. We have to wait until then. Pol has no lung and rib pain; everything is normalizing. Now he has to gain weight and muscle. And we need to give the bone time to fuse 100 percent so that it’s at least as stable as any healthy bone in the event of another fall. You can get it after ten weeks at the latest and not after six or seven.”
“However – concluded Beirer – we won’t let Pol get on a motorcycle until there is an MRI with which the doctors certify that the damaged vertebra is 100% healed. If not, we certainly won’t let Pol get on the bike.”
