In recent days, many rumors have been circulating about the new Mortal Kombat, the next entry in the beloved fighting game franchise.
The game has yet to be officially unveiled, it seems increasingly likely that some sort of announcement will be made in the coming weeks. According to Windows Central, there will be a very short gap between announcement and launch, so Mortal Kombat 2023 is expected to debut sometime in September on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
There have also been other details such as that the game will have multiple editions, including the standard ($59.99 on Switch, $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox), a Premium ($109.99) and Kollector ($249.99 on PS5 and Xbox).
Rumor has it that the new game will be a reboot and will be called Mortal Kombat 1. Details on the game’s cast have been scant, but guest characters will return, with DC’s Peacemaker apparently on the way, as well as The Boys’ Homelander.
This is nothing more than a simple leak so I personally recommend you take all this carefully while waiting for an official announcement. We know for sure that the developer NetherRealm Studios is working on the new game, and series co-creator Ed Boon has even hinted at possible modes that could return in the next game.
Until we get something concrete out of Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat fans will just have to wait and see what is revealed. It’s been a long wait since the release of Mortal Kombat 11, but it looks like fans will have something big to look forward to in the coming months!
