The Witcher is a saga of books that was born from the pen of the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Years later, he made the leap to video games with a trilogy developed by CD Projekt RED. Although the first 2 installments became cult works, the third game was the one that put the franchise and the studio responsible for it in the “mainstream” market.
With this in mind, it is not surprising that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the third installment that debuted in that distant 2015, is the most commercially successful.
Earlier this week, CD Projekt RED announced that the fantasy franchise starring Geralt de Rivia has already sold more than 75 million copies worldwide since the original title launched in 2007. Without a doubt, it is a admirable achievement.

The Witcher 3 is an absolute success
The interesting thing is to discover that a large percentage of those total sales correspond to a single game. Shortly after the first announcement, the studio revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has already managed to ship more than 50 million units worldwide since its debut almost 10 years ago.
Using a rule of 3, we find that approximately 66.6% of the franchise’s total sales are from the third installment of 2015. Since the Polish study did not provide exact figures in the release, the actual percentage may be different.

Either way, it’s impressive that Geralt of Rivia’s latest adventure is so popular and accounts for the majority of total sales. Of course, we must remember that it is the title of the IP that is available on more platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X | S.
