It turns out that artificial intelligence doesn’t just want to take our jobs. He can also read minds…
Researchers from the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL), in Switzerland, have trained a artificial intelligence called ZEBRA so that see through the eyes of a mouse, reading its brain waves. Reading the human mind is a little closer.
But before you let your imagination run wild and visualize a spy mouse that sneaks into the houseor at work, or in a top-secret company, and an evil artificial intelligence may see through their eyes reading their brain wavesthere are a number of important nuances and limitations, which we are going to explain.
What these Swiss EPFL researchers have done is read mouse brain waves while watching a fragment of the ua black and white moviewhere a person runs to his car, and opens the trunk.
The AI that reads the brain of mice
These brain waves were not picked up wirelessly. So you can’t read minds at a distance.
They used two different methods. On the one hand they placed electrodes in the visual cortex of mouse brainto read brain waves related to vision.
they also used genetically modified mice so that the neurons in your brain glow green when they transmit information.
These brain wave readings while the mouse was watching the video were used to train an artificial intelligence called ZEBRA.
Then they put another mouse to see the same video, and recorded their brain waves. The AI was able to identify which frame each waveform was associated withit is included rebuild the videobut with what the second mouse was seeing.
At the top of this photo you can see the brain waves, and at the bottom, the actual video on the left, and the video reconstructed by the AI according to the brain waves of the second mouse:
The images match throughout the video, which means that AI can correctly interpret mouse brainwaves associated with your vision and literally see what the mouse sees.
But as you can guess, the system still has limitations. It is necessary to put electrodes on the mouse, or to modify it genetically.
Also, the AI can only “see” through the mouse’s eyes, if before it has been trained with the same images that the mouse is seeing.
So for the moment, that the police or a criminal can read the mind, is far … for now.
The interesting thing about this experiment is that it shows that Artificial intelligence can be trained to correctly interpret brain waves. And that is really disturbing…
