The mayor of Milan: “The clubs have asked to extend the terms of the project dossier. I can only fully understand their reasons”
The mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, received a joint note from Inter and Milan in which the two clubs ask “to extend the deadlines for the revision of the project dossier” on the new stadium and “to clarify any restrictions on the existing stadium and on the suggested hypothesis of a citizen referendum”. This was made official by the mayor in a statement in which he recalls that in mid-April, once the Public Debate process was concluded, the Municipality had asked Milan and Inter for an update of the economic and financial plan relating to the new stadium project.

“I can only fully understand their reasons – he added -. The request for a referendum to be held for the maintenance of San Siro, not envisaged in the project, was initially rejected by the Board of Trustees, appointed by the City Council, but then called into question by the TAR; now a new pronouncement from the College itself is awaited”. Instead, as regards the constraint that could be imposed by the Superintendency, “there is still no definitive word. It is entirely reasonable that in this context Milan and Inter express reservations about investing time and money in the project. So I offered them my support to shortly organize a meeting with the Superintendency and one with the Board of Trustees – he concluded -. In recent years the Municipality has taken all the necessary steps, with transparency and in compliance with the rules. I think it’s time to accelerate.”
